When to Get Married in Charleston

Charleston’s wedding calendar is ruled by heat, humidity and hurricane season — here is how the seasons actually play out.

Spring and fall are the crown

March through May and September through November are the coveted windows, when the humidity eases, the light turns golden, and the gardens are either in bloom or holding their color. The best venues book these Saturdays a year or more out and price them accordingly.

Summer is real

June through August brings genuine heat, near-daily afternoon thunderstorms, and the sticky reality of hurricane season, which runs June into November. An outdoor summer date needs a hard rain-and-heat plan: tenting with sidewalls, cooling, a firm ceremony call time, and flexibility to move under cover fast.

Winter is the value play

Mild Charleston winters are increasingly popular for the savings and the bare-branch clarity of the historic gardens. Expect lower minimums and easier date access, with the trade-off of shorter days and the occasional genuinely cold snap off the water.
